After five seasons leading the Solon boys basketball program Jason Pershing has stepped down to accept a position as Assistant Athletic Director at Mount Mercy University.
Pershing posted a 58-57 record in five seasons at Solon leading the Spartans to the state tournament in 2016.
“I am very excited about the new challenge and opportunity to work with college level athletes,” Pershing wrote in an email.
Solon went 10-13 in its first season under Pershing and 10-15 in his second season but advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2010.
The Spartans fell to Chariton 64-50 in the Class 3A quarterfinals in 2016.
After back-to-back 10-win seasons in his first two years at Solon the Spartans went a combined 29-17 during the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons.
Solon went 16-8, its top record under Pershing, and advanced to the 3A substate final in 2017-2018.
The Spartans went 9-12 last season and will return their top two and four of their top five scorers next season.
