West High placed third behind a pair of top-five ranked teams as the season-opening Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational on Saturday at Prairie High School.

Junior Alex McKane led the Trojans with an individual runner-up finish as West High placed third with 67 points.

Class 4A third-ranked Cedar Falls won the team title with 30 points at the eight-team meet made up entirely of Mississippi Valley Conference squads.

Fifth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie was runner-up with 49 points while No. 8 West High was third, 58 points in front of fourth-place Linn-Mar.

McKane finished second in a time of 16:44.7, seven seconds off the pace of individual champion Andrew Bickford of Cedar Rapids Prairie.

Seth Cheney finished 12^th for West High in a time of 17:38.4 while Caden Noeller was 13^th in 17:39.6 and Mohan Kumar was 17^th in 18:07.5.
