Baseball Roundup: Linn-Mar Stops West High in Substate 6 Opener

Linn-Mar scratched across a run without a hit in the first inning and never let West High pull even in a 5-3 win over the Trojans in a Class 4A, Substate 6 opener on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
The win sends Linn-Mar (6-8) into the Substate 6 semifinal against Cedar Rapids Washington on Monday while West High closed its season at 7-8.
Three Lion pitchers combined to limit West High to four hits in the win.
Coy Sarsfield started and allowed a run on two hits and Colin Streff allowed one run on two hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief before Carson Recker came on to record the final out.
Will Hoeft had a hit and drove in a run for West High while Collin Leavy doubled and scored a run for the Trojans.
Nate Gudenkauf and Brett Cherry each had hits while Marcus Morgan walked three times and scored a run.
Morgan took the loss for West High allowing four runs, three earned on three hits while striking out six and walking seven.
