Baseball Roundup: Solon Rallies Past Washington in Postseason Opener

The postseason is all about moving on.
Solon found a way to do just that on Friday scoring the game-winning run on a bases loaded walk to edge Washington 6-5 in eight innings in a Class 3A, District 10 semifinal at the Solon Nature and Recreation Area.
The Spartans took advantage of three walks in the eighth inning, including the game-winning base on balls to Nolan Pattison to snap a three-game losing skid in its postseason opener.
Solon improved to 14-7 and will face Clear Creek Amana (14-5) in the District 10 title game on Monday at 7 p.m. in Tiffin.
Washington closed the season 10-7.
Solon overcame a pair of deficits on Friday while finding a way to advance.
Washington scored twice in the first to take an early lead but Solon responded with four runs in the third.
Pattison and Carson Shive each had RBI singles in the four-run Spartan fourth.
Washington got a run in the fourth and regained the lead 5-4 with two more in the fifth.
Solon pulled even in the sixth when Cael O’Neill led off with a single and scored on a two-out double by Cole Arduser.
Jacob Smith worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Lucas Walker to earn the win for Solon.
Kinnick Pusteoska had a single that loaded the bases in the eighth-inning and went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Shive had two hits and drove in a run.
Pattison had a hit and drove in two while Arduser doubled, drove in a run and scored a run.
O’Neill and Brady Jeworrek each had a hit and scored a run for Solon.
Walker allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings.
