Your Prep Sports
Regina was returning to the field for the first time in more than two weeks on Tuesday when it faced Tipton in its postseason opener.
A late rally helped the Regals keep their season alive for at least a few more days.
Regina broke open a tie game with six runs in the top of the seventh inning on its way to a 10-4 win over Tipton (5-11) in a Class 2A, District 8 semifinal on Tuesday afternoon at Gus Witt Field in Camanche.
The win was the first action for Regina since a 10-0 win over North Cedar on June 29 and sends the Regals into the District 8 title game where they will face Durant (10-4) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Durant stretched its winning streak to five with a 3-0 upset of top-seeded and eighth-ranked Camanche 3-0 in the other semifinal on Tuesday.
Declan McCoy snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh and Jack Clark and Eliezer De Los Santos followed with RBI doubles in the six-run Regal seventh.
Clark, McCoy, Danny Molony and Alex Meister all drove in two runs for the Regals while Levi Quinlan had two hits and scored two runs.
Meister went 2-for-4 and also scored twice and De Los Santos had two doubles, walked twice, scored a run and drove in a run.
Quinlan earned the win for Regina working 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief.
Kyle Schooley allowed one run on five hits in 2 1/3 solid innings after taking over for Chase Becker who gave up three runs on six hits in 3 1/3.
Regina won the regular season meeting with Durant 5-4 in the season opener for both teams on June 15.
