Softball Roundup: Liberty High Stays Hot With Sweep of Cedar Rapids Jefferson

With the postseason approaching Liberty High has picked the perfect time to be playing its best softball of the season.
Liberty High remained red-hot with a sweep of Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division doubleheader on Monday in North Liberty.
Kara Maiers tossed her third no-hitter of the month and struck out 14 in a 3-2 win in the opener and the Lightning hammered three home runs and 14 hits in a 13-4 win in the nightcap.
Liberty High improved to 16-8 on the season and won for the 12th time in its last 14 games while Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 11-12.
Maiers allowed just two unearned runs in the opener, striking out 14 and walking three and got the win when Miranda Jones plated pinch runner Carlie Schroeder with a walkoff double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Brylee Klosterman had a hit and drove in a run and Kelsey Phipps scored a run.
Tiffany Jones, Mischa Reiners and Kinsley Robertson all added hits in the opener.
Everyone got into the act in the nightcap as nine different Liberty High players had hits in the game two win.
Klosterman, Miranda Jones and Kennedy Daugherty all homered in the nightcap.
Olivia Davenport and Daugherty each went 3-for-4 with Daugherty driving in three runs.
Jones drove in two runs and Klosterman drove in a run and scored twice.
Robertson, Kylie Hamers, Haley Napoli and Ashlyn Geasland all had hits and drove in runs in the win.
Robertson earned the win allowing one run on four hits in 3 2/3 innings.
