Softball Roundup: Solon Rebounds Quickly With Win Over Vinton-Shellsburg

Solon didn’t get much time to sulk after letting late leads slip away in both games of a doubleheader with Williamsburg on Friday night.
Instead the Spartans were the ones that used a late rally to pull out a win on Saturday.
Solon scored six runs in the top of the first and then broke an 8-8 tie with four runs in the seventh on its way to a 12-8 win over Vinton-Shellsburg in a WAMAC Conference matinee matchup on Saturday in Vinton.
Hilary Wilson had the go-ahead two-out RBI single in the seventh inning and Jadyn Jeter provided the insurance following with a two-run double as Solon bounced back from a pair of loss to Class 3A fourth-ranked Williamsburg on Friday.
Solon improved to 17-13 with the win while Vinton-Shellsburg dropped to 5-17.
The Spartans sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of Vinton-Shellsburg errors.
Jeter had a two-run single in the six-run first inning on her way to a 5-for-5 day that featured four RBI and three runs scored.
Peyton Sands went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Wilson was 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Sarah Heick and Kayla West each had two hits while Camryn Keith had a hit and drove in a run and Jada Buffington had an RBI.
Madison Sprague picked up the win working 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relif.
