Softball Roundup: Independence Rallies to Sweep Solon

Independence scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning of the nightcap to complete a sweep of Class 3A No. 13 Solon in a WAMAC cross-divisional doubleheader on Friday in Independence.
The Mustangs won the opener 3-2 and took the nightcap 11-10 to improve to 8-9 on the season while Solon dropped to 15-8 on the year.
Carly Ellison took the loss for Solon in the opener allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out six in six innings.
Solon had just three hits in game one with singles from Monet Barnhouse, Hilary Wilson and Camryn Keith accounting for all the Spartan offense.
Ellison drove in a run and Ava Stebral and Wilson scored runs for the Spartans.
In the nightcap Solon scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend the game and took a 10-6 lead with four runs in the top of the eighth.
However, the Mustangs answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning scoring the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Kenzie Fischels.
Wilson and Jadyn Jeter each went 2-for-5 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored to lead Solon.
Peyton Sands doubled and drove in two runs while Barnhouse had a hit and drove in a run and Keith, Jada Buffington and Claire LaDage all drove in runs.
