For the second time in a little more than a month City High held off Cedar Rapids Xavier to remain unbeaten.

Aubrey Joens and Rose Nkumu combined for 47 points as Class 5A top-ranked City High improved to 14-0 on the season with a 63-53 win over 4A No. 12 Cedar Rapids Xavier on Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division contest in Cedar Rapids.

Joens had a game-high 26 points and Nkumu added 21 as City High completed the season sweep of the Saints.

City High won the first meeting 61-60 on December 21 and trailed 18-16 after the opening quarter on Friday.

The Little Hawks used a 21-point second quarter to take a 37-27 halftime lead and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Paige Rocca added nine points for City High and Ella Cook had five.

Emily Jasper led four Xavier players in double figures with 14 points.

West High Completes Season Sweep of Liberty High

Class 5A No. 12 West High completed the season sweep of cross-town rival Liberty High with a 67-22 win over the Lightning on Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division matchup in North Liberty.

Lauren Zacharias scored a game-high 16 points to lead four West High players in double figures as the Women of Troy improved to 11-3 on the season.

Zacharias had six steals, four rebounds and three assists for West High which led 39-11 at the half.

Freshman Emma Ingersoll-Weng scored 14 points, Matayia Tellis added 12 points and five rebounds and Cailyn Morgan had 10 points and four rebounds.

Haley Napoli led Liberty High with seven points as the Lightning dropped to 2-13 on the season with their 11th consecutive loss.
