Girls Basketball Roundup: West Branch Red Hot In Season Opener

West Branch got off to a red hot start on Tuesday in its season opener.
The sophomore guard combo of Sasha Koenig and Taya Young combined for 54 points as West Branch shot 55 percent in a 76-43 win over Durant in a River Valley Conference South Division matchup in West Branch.
Koenig poured in a game-high 31 points and Young added 23 to lead West Branch which scored more than 70 points for the first time since its second game of last season.
Young and Koenig combined to go 18-of-23 from the field and was a perfect 8-of-8 from 3-point range as West Branch hit 8-of-14 3-pointers as a team.
Koenig connected on all six of her 3-point attempts and added five steals and four assists.
Young had five steals and three assists while sophomore Rylan Druecker had four steals and four assists as the Bears had 20 assists on 29 made field goals.
Senior Abbey Fryauf had four points, four assists and five rebounds and Taylor Thein added eight points.
Durant dropped to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in RVC South Division play.
