Gaudet, Green Headline IPSWA All-State Picks For West High
Your Prep Sports
Prior to the 2015 season West High had never had a 1,000-yard receiver.
Fast forward four seasons and it is getting difficult to remember the last time the Trojans didn’t have a receiver crack the 1,000-yard mark.
Senior Jalen Gaudet became the latest West High player to rack up 1,000 receiving yards this season and on Tuesday earned first-team Class 4A all-state honors from the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Landon Green joined Gaudet on the Class 4A first team while sophomore Marcus Morgan was a second team selection and seniors Josh Jasek, Noah Aanestad and Cole Mabry were all third team picks by the IPSWA.
Gaudet was one of three players in Class 4A to finish with 1,000 receiving yards, catching 37 passes for 1,061 yards.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Gaudet joins Oliver Martin and Traevis Buchanan as 1,000-yard receivers at West High and gives the Trojans a receiver with 1,000 yards for the fourth consecutive season.
Gaudet led the state with a 28.7 yards per catch average and had 10 touchdown receptions.
Green was named to the 4A first-team defense after leading the Trojans with 52.5 tackles from his defensive tackle position.
The 5-foot-9, 210-pound senior ranked second in 4A with 25.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.
Morgan was a second-team pick at punter after averaging 39.1 yards on 38 punts that included a school-record 68 yard effort against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Jasek was a third-team selection at place kicker.
Jasek converted 45-of-46 extra points and was 9-of-11 on field goal attempts with a long of 43.
Senior defensive back Cole Mabry earned third-team honors at the at-large spot after collecting 47 tackles including 29 solo stops.
An Army recruit, Mabry had an interception and recovered a fumble from his safety spot.
Aanestad was a third-team pick at defensive back after leading West High with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
The 6-foot, 180-pound corner back had 24.5 tackles, good for sixth on the team.
