City High Gets First State Tournament Win Since 1982

City High snapped a long state tournament drought this week with its first appearance in Fort Dodge since 2001.
The Little Hawks ended an even longer drought on Wednesday.
City High won its first state tournament game since 1982 with a 3-1 win over seventh-ranked Johnston (27-12) in a 5A consolation contest at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Ella Cook tossed a complete game five-hitter and Briana Bentler had a two-run double as City High bounced back from a quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Pleasant Valley on Tuesday.
City High closed the season 25-19, the most wins for the Little Hawks in the 40-game regular season era.
Cook allowed just one unearned run in the third inning, struck out two and walked one while improving to 13-7 on the season.
Cook singled and scored in the first inning to give City High and early lead.
After Johnston tied the game win the third, Bentler gave the Little Hawks the lead for good with a two-run double in the fourth.
Sydney Fellows finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI and Cook was 1-for-3 with a run for City High.
