West High pushed its winning streak to four with a 7-3 win over Benton Community on Thursday in a non-conference contest in Iowa City.

Class 4A ninth-ranked West High improved to 24-9 with the win while Benton Community had a four-game winning streak snapped with the loss and dropped to 14-19 on the season.

Chase Calderwood was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI as five of the Trojans’ nine hits went for extra-bases.

Austin Curtiss went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Ben Madden had a hit and drove in two runs for West High.

Ryan Cooper doubled and scored a run, Jason Strunk had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run and Lucas Karwal had a triple to lead West High.

Noah Aanestad earned the win allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five in 4 2/3 innings.

Casey Marvin worked 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief and Alex Swack worked a perfect seventh inning.

Regina Closes Regular Season With Win over Mount Vernon

Regina will enter the postseason riding a winning streak, the Regals made sure of that on Thursday.

Class 2A third-ranked Regina closed the regular season with an 11-1 six-inning win over Mount Vernon on Thursday in a non-conference contest in Iowa City.

Regina improved to 24-7 with the win and will take a seven-game winning streak into the postseason.

Mount Vernon dropped to 14-15 with its fourth consecutive loss.

Jayden Kies went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs and Trent Hoogerwerf was 3-for-4 with an RBI as Regina pounded out 18 hits in the win.

Hunter Liebermann, Nick Brandt and Masen Miller all had two hits and scored two runs for the Regals while Jake Phillips, Ryne Schooley, Mitch Gahan and Evan Suchomel had a hit and scored a run.

Schott earned the win for Regina allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out one and walking two in four innings.

Clippers Drop Non-conference Game at BGM

Clear Creek Amana fell to BGM 7-5 on Thursday in a non-conference contest in Brooklyn.

The Clippers dropped to 16-16 with the loss while BGM snapped a four-game losing skid with the win while improving to 9-14 on the season.

Tyler Schrepfer took the loss for Clear Creek Amana allowing six unearned runs on eight hits in five innings.

Camden Armstrong was 3-for-5 with a double while Schrepfer went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Clippers.

Sam Young drove in two runs for the Clippers and Grant Jensen had a hit and scored twice.

Cody Ogden had a hit and scored a run and Camden Smyka had a hit and drove in a run.

Solon Bounces Back With Win at Ottumwa

Solon shook off a loss to sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier on Tuesday with a 7-3 win over Ottumwa in a non-conference contest on Thursday in Ottumwa.

Luke Ira homered, tripled and drove in five runs as Solon improved to 26-9 on the season.

Cam Miller picked up the win allowing three runs on five hits while striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings.

Kendrick Harris, Zach Wegmann and Miller all had two hits and scored twice for Solon as the Spartans hammered out 13 hits.

Adam Bock had a hit and drove in a run while Payton Bandy doubled and scored and Chris McSweeney had a hit and scored a run.

Ottumwa dropped to 24-12 on the season.

Marion Rallies Past Liberty High

Marion scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined on its way to a 9-7 win over Liberty High on Thursday in Marion.

Liberty High dropped to 9-18 with the loss while Marion improved to 18-13 with its third consecutive win.

Isaac Bender took the loss for Liberty High allowing two runs on one hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Ethan O’Donnell started the game for Liberty High and allowed five runs on nine hits while walking five in 4 1/3 innings.

Jacob Norris and Cayden Duhaime each had two hits for Liberty High.

Tyler Dahm had a hit and drove in a run while Bender had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run.

Alec Boldt and Keian Secrist each had a hit and drove in a run while Boldt and Norris each scored twice.

Alburnett Downs West Branch in Regular Season Finale

West Branch closed the regular season with a 5-0 non-conference loss to Class 1A fifth-ranked Alburnett on Thursday in West Branch.

The Bears dropped to 10-14 on the season while Alburnett improved to 30-6.

Tanner Lukavsky had two hits to lead West Branch while Brady Lukavsky, Trey Eagle and Trevor Thein each had a hit.

Eagle took the loss for West Branch allowing three runs on two hits while striking out four and walking four in four innings.
