Part blowout and part nail biter added up to a doubleheader sweep for Regina on Monday.

Class 2A second-ranked Regina cruised to a 13-0 five-inning win over Mid-Prairie in the opener and scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to secure the sweep with a 4-2 win in the nightcap of a River Valley Conference South Division doubleheader in Wellman.

Regina improved to 12-2 on the season and 7-0 in RVC play while stretching its season-best win streak to eight with the two wins.

Mid-Prairie dropped to 5-8 on the season and 3-7 in RVC play and has lost eight in a row.

Seven different Regals had multiple hits as Regina hammered out 17 hits in the opener.

Mitch Gahan had three hits to lead the way while Ryne Schooley, Trent Hoogerwerf, Evan Suchomel and Nick Brandt all had two hits and drove in two runs in the win.

Ryan Schott had two hits including a triple and scored two runs while Masen Miller had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run.

Gahan picked up the win in game one working four scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out three.

Regina snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the eighth inning of game two to secure the sweep.

Masen Miller earned the win in game two, striking out four in 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief.

Schooley went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored while Berns, Schott and Jayden Kies all had two hits.

West High Gets Road Sweep at Waterloo East

West High pushed its winning streak to six with a sweep of Waterloo East on Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Waterloo.

Class 4A sixth-ranked West High won the opener 17-0 and added a 7-1 win in the nightcap to improve to 14-4 on the season and 7-3 in MVC play.

West High scored 10 runs in the first inning of the opener and finished with 12 hits.

Jason Strunk went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs, a double and nine RBI.

Lucas Karwal went 2-for-2 with three RBI while Jayson Barnes was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs.

Tyler Stern tossed a four-inning two-hitter to earn the win, striking out five without walking a batter.

West High scored three runs in the first inning of the nightcap and rolled to a 7-1 win.

Ryan Cooper picked up the win allowing one run on one hit while striking out five in three innings.

Karwal went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI to lead the West High attack.

Owen McAreavy had a double, scored a run and drove in a run while Alex Schwickerath scored two runs.

CCA Earns Two Extra Inning Wins Over Vinton-Shellsburg

Clear Creek Amana managed to muster just three total runs in the first seven innings of each game in its WAMAC doubleheader at Vinton-Shellsburg on Monday.

The Clipper offense came alive in the eighth inning twice to pick up its second conference sweep of the season.

Clear Creek Amana scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning in back-to-back games to earn wins of 5-2 and 4-1 in a WAMAC West Division sweep of Vinton-Shellsburg.

The Clippers improved to 8-8 on the season and 5-7 in WAMAC play with the sweep.

Camden Armstrong and Camden Smyka each tossed eight-inning complete games for the Clippers.

Armstrong allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking two to earn the win in game one.

Smyka had two hits and drove in two runs in game one while David Jensen went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Cody Ogden drove in a run and Casey Ogden scored a run in the game-one win.

Smyka struck out 11 and allowed just one unearned run in a three-hitter to pick up the win in game two.

Armstrong had three hits, drove in a run and scored a run in the nightcap while Smyka had a hit and scored a run and Cody Ogden had a hit and drove in a run.

Washington Sweeps Liberty High

Washington scored two runs in the eighth inning to complete a sweep of Liberty High with a 7-5 win in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City on Monday.

The Demons won the opener 11-5 and improved to 10-5 with the sweep while Liberty High dropped to 4-10 on the season.

Tyler Dahm had two hits and drove in a run and Cayden Duhaime had a double and drove in a run for the Lightning.

Ethan O’Donnell took the loss allowing seven hits on seven hits in four innings.

Dahm, Isaac Bender and Nolan Frey all had two hits in the nightcap while Tyler White drove in two runs.

Sam Funke doubled while Max Tafolla and Duhaime each had an RBI in game two.
