There figures to be a lot of firsts for the Liberty High baseball program this season.

The Lightning got a handful of big firsts out of the way on Tuesday evening.

Liberty High earned its first ever win with a 14-2 victory over Burlington Notre Dame and notched its first ever sweep with the first no-hitter in program history in a 19-0 win in the nightcap at Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids.

Ethan O’Donnell and Cayden Duhaime combined for the four-inning no-hitter in game two as Liberty High improved to 2-6 on the season.

Burlington Notre Dame dropped to 6-7 with the doubleheader sweep.

Liberty High pounded 18 hits in the opener as Tyler Dahm, Isaac Bender and Tyler White all had three hits.

Bender tripled, doubled and scored three runs while Dahm also scored three times.

White had a triple, scored three times and drove in a run while Sam Funke had two hits and drove in five runs.

Nolan Frey and Alec Boldt each added two hits in the game one win.

Keian Secrist earned the win in the opener allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out six in four innings.

O’Donnell and Duhaime teamed up for the no-hitter in game two as Liberty scored a season-high 19 runs.

Bender was 3-for-3 with a triple and Frey added three hits.

A night after knocking off the top team in Class 2A there was no let down from Regina on Tuesday.

Class 2A third-ranked Regina followed up a doubleheader sweep of top-ranked Wilton on Monday with a 15-5 win over North Cedar in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Lowden.

Regina improved to 7-2 with the win and remained unbeaten in RVC play at 5-0 while North Cedar dropped to 0-7 on the season and in conference play.

Trent Hoogerwerf, Jayden Kies and Blake Berns all had two hits as Regina hammered out 12 hits in the win.

Hoogerwerf was 2-for-3, scored three runs and drove in a run while Berns went 2-for-3 with a double, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Kies was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Evan Suchomel had a hit and two RBI.

Five different Regina pitchers tossed an inning in the win with Jake Phillips and Kies each tossing a scoreless inning.

Phillips earned the win while Masen Miller, Berns and Kies all struck out two in their inning of work.
