McCarty Finishes Tied for 8th at Class 3A State Golf Meet

For the second consecutive day at the Class 3A state golf meet Brandon McCarty finished with a bang.
After putting the finishing touches on an opening round 77 with a birdie on the 18th hole on Thursday, McCarty secured a top-10 finish in his state debut with an eagle on 18 on Friday.
The eagle on the par-five 18th helped McCarty shoot a 76 on Friday and pulled the Clear Creek Amana sophomore into a tie for eighth place with Atlantic junior Matthew Gearheart and Oskaloosa senior Spencer Tucker with a two-day total of 153.
Grinnell senior Lucas Sherf shot a two-under-par 70 on Friday to win the individual title with a 142. Central DeWitt sophomore Tucker Kinney was second with a 146 followed by Reilly McGranahan of Central DeWitt and Noah Hartman of Ballard with a 147.
McCarty tied for the most birdies in the field with eight over the 36 holes, recording four in each round.
He had 10 bogies and three pars to go with his four birdies and final hole eagle on Friday.
Central DeWitt won the team title with a 609, finishing 21 strokes in front of runner-up Nevada.
Clear Lake was third with a 631 and Spencer was fourth with a 637.
