Two overtimes and five penalty kicks in a shootout weren’t enough to determine a winner in a Class 1A top-10 matchup between Regina and Waterloo Columbus on Tuesday.
It was the top-ranked Regals and sophomore goal keeper Josh Dutchik that finally came up with the play that proved to be the difference.
Dutchik stopped the seventh Waterloo Columbus attempt in a penalty kick shootout and Isaac Vollstedt converted the game-winner as top-ranked Regina outlasted No. 6 Waterloo Columbus in Waterloo.
Tied 1-1 after regulation and two overtime periods Regina converted all seven penalty kicks in a shootout to secure the win.
Regina improved to 2-0 while Waterloo Columbus dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
Benton Stops Clear Creek Amana
Clear Creek Amana dropped to 1-3 on the season with a 2-0 loss to Class 1A ninth-ranked Benton Community on Tuesday in a WAMAC West matchup in Tiffin.
The Clippers fell to 1-1 in WAMAC West play while Benton Community improved to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in WAMAC West action.
