Thanks to mother nature Clear Creek Amana went nearly three weeks between its final indoor competition and its first outdoor meet of the season.

Clear Creek Amana showed little signs of rust in its outdoor opener on Thursday.

The Clippers had six top-four finishes, set a school record and had four performances that ranked in the top four in program history at its own Clear Creek Amana invite on a overcast and chilly evening in Tiffin.

“I was a little nervous about how the boys would handle the long layoff between out indoor portion of the season to tonight with all of the meet cancellations,” Clear Creek Amana coach Ben Robison said. “My guys performed about as good as I could have ever expected with that layoff and the chilly weather.”

Senior Seb Johanson finished runner-up in the 110 hurdles in 15.81 while Jack Sexton was fourth in the 1,600 and freshman Brandon Barker was fourth in 3,200 to lead the Clippers.

Sexton’s time of 4:35.93 in the 1,600 was second best all-time at Clear Creek Amana.

The Clippers sprint medley relay team of Matt Brimeyer, Trever Stockman, Darius Moore and Harrison Cory placed third in a school-record time of 1:39.17 and the 4×800 team of Kaden McAreavy, Quentin Gisleson, Sexton and Nick O’Connor was third in 8:33.86, the fourth fastest time in program history.

“What a night,” Robison said. “A couple of Top-5 Marks, some huge prs, and some pretty incredible marks considering how early it is. It was a great opening meet for us, and we have some great stuff to build on. I cannot wait to get firing on all cylinders.”

West High won four events at the meet that did not feature team scores.

Cole Mabry won the 400 hurdles and Kolby Greiner added a title in the 1,600 to go with titles in the shuttle hurdle and 4×400 relay.

Mabry won the 400 hurdles in 56.5 while Greiner took the 1,600 in 4:30.1.

The West High 4×400 squad of Gabe Caruthers, Seybian Sims, Austin West, Jeff Garbutt won by more than five seconds in a time of 3:23.08.

Mabry, Caden Fedeler, Gabe Caruthers and Austin West teamed up to win the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:02.2.

Solon got individual titles from Luke Ira in the 110 hurdles and Tyler Linderbaum in the shot put.

Ira won the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.53 while Linderbaum claimed the shot put crown with a toss of 53-3.
