Wrestling Roundup: Brands, Duggan Lead West High at Ed Winger Classic

Franics Duggan made his West High debut a memorable one on Saturday.
The three-time state medalist in Pennsylvania went 4-0 in his first tournament in a West High singlet, claiming the 220-pound title at the Ed Winger Classic in Urbandale.
Duggan transferred to West High this summer but sat out until Saturday due to transfer rules.
In his first appearance he collected a pair of first-period falls before downing third-ranked Isaac Bales of Glenwood in the semifinals.
Duggan secured his first title as a West High wrestler with a 16-7 major decision over second-ranked and previously unbeaten Greg Hagan of West Des Moines Dowling.
Teammate Nelson Brands added an individual title at 160 pounds as West High placed fifth with 124 points.
Southeast Polk won the team title with 200 points while West Des Moines Valley was second with 165.5.
Brands (41-1) went 3-0 en route to the 160-pound title, earning a 9-3 decision over second-ranked Zane Mulder of Dallas Center-Grimes in the title match.
Graham Gambrall finished third at 132 and Will Hoeft was third at 182 for West High and Hans vonRabenau was fifth at 106.

Regina Crowns Three Champs at John Byers Invitational
Regina crowned three champions and placed seventh as a team at the John Byers Invitational on Saturday at Midland High School in Wyoming.
Ryan Schott, Nick Milder and Rowan Udell all earned individual titles as the Regals finished with 97.5 points.
Southeast Polk won the team title with 182.5 points while host Midland was runner-up with 133.5.
Schott earned a 15-0 tech. fall over Spencer Amling of Edgewood-Colesburg in the 160-pound title match to improve to 36-1 on the season.
Milder moved his season record to 19-2 with a 4-1 win over Hunter Clasen of Bellevue in the 170-pound championship match.
Udell edged Kalob Runyon of Southeast Polk 4-0 to finish first at 195 pounds.

Cochran Leads CCA at Rick Caldwell Invitational
Tanner Cochran earned a runner-up finish at 220 pounds to lead Clear Creek Amana at the Rick Caldwell Invitational on Saturday in Waverly.
Cochran fell to Sam Wolff of Indianola 3-2 in the ultima tiebreaker in the 220-pound title match.
The runner-up finish by Cochrane helped the Clippers place seventh with 77 points.
Class 3A top-ranked Fort Dodge won the team title with 228 points while host Waverly-Shell Rock was second with 194 points.
West Branch junior Tyler Siemen (16-14) was runner-up at 106 pounds as the Bears placed ninth with 27 points.

Solon Runner-up at Herb Irgens Invitational
Tyler Linderbaum won the individual title at 285 pounds to help Solon to a runner-up team finish at the two-day, 24-team Herb Irgens Invitational on Saturday in Ida Grove.
Linderbaum went 3-0 and had a pair of pins on his way to the 285-pound title including a third-period pin of Noah Pittman of Don Bosco in the title match.
Don Bosco won the team title with 251.5 points while Solon was second with 182.5 points.
Zach Wegmann and Mike Hoyle each added runner-up finishes for the Spartans.
Hoyle improved to 28-6 on the season while placing second at 182 pounds while Wegmann (25-8) was runner-up at 220 pounds.
Zeb Gnida placed third at 120 pounds and Zack Bevans was third at 152 pounds for the Spartans.
