Boys Basketball Roundup: Solon Can’t Complete Comeback in Loss to Benton Community

A furious second half rally wasn’t quite enough to dig Solon out of an 18-point halftime hole on Friday.
Solon used a 26-point third quarter to cut a 39-21 halftime deficit to five but couldn’t complete the comeback falling to Benton Community 68-61 in a WAMAC cross-divisional matchup in Solon.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Solon and dropped the Spartans to 6-3 on the season while Benton Community moved to 6-2 with its third consecutive win.
Ben Krutzfeldt led Solon with 20 points and AJ Coons added 17 for the Spartans.
Spencer Touro had a game-high 25 for Benton Community.

Trojans Match State Record with 79th Straight Home Win
West High tied the state record for consecutive home victories with a 79-41 win over Dubuque Wahlert on Friday.
The win was the 79th consecutive home win for West High which matches the Palmer for the longest unbeaten streak in state history.
The last home loss for West High was a 65-46 loss to Cedar Falls on December 10 of 2010.
Seybian Sims had 21 points, Evan Flitz had 15 and Patrick McCaffery 13 as top-ranked West High improved to 8-0 on the season.
Central DeWitt Rallies Past CCA
Clear Creek Amana let a three-point halftime lead slip away in a 64-52 loss to Central DeWitt on Friday in DeWitt.
Central DeWitt outscored the Clippers 26-14 in the fourth quarter to break a 38-38 tie and snap a four-game losing skid.
The win was the first for Central DeWitt since December 8 and improved the Sabers to 3-6 on the season.
Darius Moore scored 22 points and Tyler Schrepfer added 16 but it wasn’t enough as Clear Creek Amana dropped to 2-6.
Freshman TJ Bollers added seven points and eight rebounds for the Clippers.

Unbeaten Northeast Handles West Branch
Northeast used a big second quarter to pull away from West Branch for a 56-37 win in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional contest in Goose Lake on Friday.
Beau Cornwell scored 14 points and Tanner Lukavsky had 10 points and five steals for West Branch which had a two-game winning streak snapped with the loss.
Northeast improved to 10-0 on the season and 7-0 in RVC play while West Branch dropped to 5-6 and 4-6 in RVC action.
