5A No. 2 West High (4-1) at 5A No. 3 City High (4-0)

As if the cross-town rivalry needed any extra incentive Tuesday’s meeting comes with a possible number one ranking on the line.

City High knocked off top-ranked Cedar Falls on Friday and the winner of the first meeting between the two rivals could be 5A’s new top-ranked team.

Don’t look too much into the loss for West High which came Saturday in Minnesota against nationally ranked Hopkins.

Last year was the first time since 2010-2011 the teams split the regular season meetings with City High and West High each winning on each other’s home courts.

West High won the final meeting between the two teams last season 63-58 at City High.

Other Games to Watch

Regina at Monticello: Regina hits the road on Tuesday for a River Valley Conference cross divisional matchup that could hold title implications in both divisions.

Cascade at West Branch: Cascade comes to West Branch on Tuesday riding a five-game winning streak that includes wins over ranked RVC teams Bellevue and Camanche.  

Regina at West Branch: The long-time rivals meet in West Branch on Friday in a meeting of two of the best guard corps in the conference.

Player to Watch

Nicole McDermott, Soph., Cascade

McDermott is as efficient as they come in Class 2A, an all-around guard capable of controlling the game in different ways.

The 5-foot-5 sophomore is averaging 14.4 points per game while shooting 57 percent from the field including 42 percent from 3-point range.

McDermott is also averaging 5.6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.3 steals per game while helping Cascade to a 6-1 record.

Who’s Hot

Kennedy Wallace, Jr., Regina

Wallace posted a new career-high twice in less than 24 hours last week.

The junior guard scored 19 points in a win over West Liberty on Friday and turned around to score 20 in a 65-41 win over Wilton on Saturday afternoon.

Wallace helped Regina rattle off three wins in five days last week and was a big reason the Regals are averaging 65 points a game during their current win streak.
