Wrestling Roundup: Brands, Linderbaum Win Titles at Cliff Keen Independence Invitational

Tyler Linderbaum won an individual title at 285 pounds to lead Solon to a top-10 team finish at the two-day, 30-team Cliff Keen Independence Invitational on Saturday at Independence High School.
Linderbaum went 5-0 on his way to the 285-pound title and earned a 5-2 decision over Algona senior Dominick Etherington in the championship match.
Ranked fourth in Class 2A, Linderbaum won back-to-back matches by tiebreaker to reach the finals, including an ultimate tiebreaker victory over ninth-ranked Jacob Knutson of Crestwood in the semifinals.
Linderbaum led four medalists for Solon as the Spartans finished 10th in the team standings with 192 points.
Fort Dodge won the team title while Christian Brothers College (MO) was runner-up with 299.5 points.
Zach Wegmann added a fifth-place finish for Solon while Zeb Gnida (120), Mike Hoyle (182) were both sixth.
Top-ranked West High senior Nelson Brands won the 160-pound title with a 16-9 decision over Class 1A second-ranked Brennan Swafford of Mediapolis.
Brands (7-0) won five straight matches on his way to the title, helping West High finish 12th in the team standings with 182.5 points.
West High had five wrestlers earn top-10 finishes as Guy Snow was fifth at 285, Ashton Stumpf was sixth at 170, Will Hoeft was 7th at 182 and Hans von Rabenau was 8th at 113.
Tanner Cochrane placed seventh at 220 pounds to lead Clear Creek Amana as the Clippers finished 28th with 46 points.

City High Crowns 5 Champs in Runner-up Finish at Newton Cardinal Classic
City High crowned five champions on its way to a runner-up team finish on Saturday at the Newton Cardinal Classic.
Ethan Wood-Finley, Joey Harney, Kyle Hefley, Wilfred Kadohou and Jacob Dykes all went unbeaten on their way to individual titles on Saturday.
Johnston won the team title with 248.5 points followed by City High with 233.5 points. Host Newton was third with 130.5 points.
Wood-Finley went 3-0 with three pins to improve to 5-0 on the season and claim the 106-pound title.
Harney, Hefley, Kadohou and Dykes all went 5-0 on Saturday to improve their season records to 7-0.
Harney won all five of his matches by fall to win the title at 138 pounds and Dykes had four pins on his way to the 220-pound title.
Kadohou collected three pins en route to a title at 160 pounds and Hefley claimed the title at 152.

Schott Wins Title at Pekin Invitational
Ryan Schott won three straight matches by tech fall or fall on his way to the 170-pound title at the Pekin Invitational on Saturday.
Schott pinned Kaden Baker of Pekin in the 170-pound title match in 3:28 to improve to 4-0 on the season as Regina finished seventh in the team standings with 73.5 points.
Henry May added a runner-up finish for Regina at 120 pounds while Thoe Kolie was fourth at 138, Russell Hingst was 5th at 220 and Seth Lenz was sixth at 106.
