The first trip to the state swimming meet was a memorable one for Aurora Roghair.

Roghair record a pair of top-four finishes in her debut at the girls state swimming meet on Saturday at the Marshalltown YMCA.

The West High freshman placed third in the 200 freestyle and added a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle in her first appearance at the state meet.

Sophomore Lily Ernst added a third-place performance in the 100 butterfly to help West High finish eighth in the team standings with 98 points.

Ames won seven of 12 events to cruise to its seventh team title in the past eight seasons with 384 points.

West Des Moines Dowling was second with 271.5 while Bettendorf placed third with 203.5.

City High finished 16th with 36 points, nearly double the 19 points the Little Hawks tallied at the state meet last season.

Roghair was third in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.76, less than three seconds off the pace of West Des Moines Dowling junior Clare Culver who won the event in 1:49.86.

She added her fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:02.4.

Ernst was third in the 100 butterfly in 56.89 to finish less than two seconds back of winner Berit Quass of West Des Moines Dowling.

Ernst and Roghair joined Melanie Housenga and Alleyna Thomas on the West High 200 and 400 relay teams that each finished ninth.

Sophomore Carly Weigel led City High with a 10th place finish in the 100 backstroke and an 11th place finish in the 200 freestyle.

Fellow sophomore Trinity Sadecky finished 10th in the 500 freestyle for the Little Hawks.
