Solon Defense Dominant Again in 43-7 Win Over Oskaloosa

Solon did not post a shutout on Friday, failing to hold an opponent scoreless for just the second time this season.
That’s about the only thing the Spartan defense didn’t do in a 43-7 win over Oskaloosa at Lacey Stadium.
Class 3A top-ranked Solon limited Oskaloosa to a season-low 75 yards of total offense, including -4 yards rushing, and held an opponent to seven points or less for the fifth straight game to open the season.
Solon improved to 5-0 on the year and took sole possession of first place in Class 3A, District 5 at 3-0.
The 75 total yards allowed and -4 rushing yards were season-lows allowed by a Solon defense which has given up a total of 14 points on the year and hasn’t allowed more than 248 yards in a game.
Solon had plenty of offense to go with its’ dominating defensive performance on Friday.
Senior Kendrick Harris rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries and junior Hunter Kula added 82 yards and a score on 12 carries as the Spartans rolled up 250 yards on the ground.
Sophomore Cam Miller was 7-of-12 passing for 130 yards with a pair of touchdowns as Solon finished with 380 yards of total offense.
Solon jumped to a 15-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game and never let Oskaloosa (3-2, 2-1) back into the game.
Harris scored on a 3-yard run less than five minutes into the game and the Spartans made it 15-0 when Miller hit Adam Bock with a 72-yard touchdown pass with 2:48 left in the opening quarter.
A 2-yard touchdown run by Coal Flansburg and a 4-yard pass from Miller to Payton Bandy gave the Spartans a 29-0 halftime cushion.
The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter and Solon activated the running-clock in the fourth when Harris scored on his second 3-yard run of the game.
Seth Howard was 14-of-27 passing for 79 yards and a touchdown to lead Oskaloosa which had a three-game winning streak snapped with the loss.
Solon returns home next week to host Fort Madison (3-2).
