Cross Country Roundup: West High’s Greiner and Nock Set Course Records

The 44th Bobcat Cross Country Invitational in Marshalltown turned into an individual showdown between the top four ranked runners in the state.
Kolby Greiner demonstrated why he sits at the top of that list.
The top-ranked runner in Class 4A, Greiner set a course record with a time of 15:23 on his way to the individual title at the Marshalltown Community College course on Thursday.
Greiner finished three seconds in front of third-ranked Matthew Carmody of West Des Moines Dowling while second-ranked Tim Sindt of Ankeny was third in 15:31 followed by eighth-ranked Anthony Pena of Pleasant Valley in 15:56 and Ankeny Centennial’s fourth-ranked Camden Cox in 16:05.
The title by Greiner helped West High to a fifth-place team finish in the 21-team meet with 138 points.
Top-ranked West Des Moines Dowling won the team title with 61 points followed by No. 2 Pleasant Valley with 74, West Des Moines Valley with 114 and Waukee with 126.
Ethan Goers placed 26th for West High in 16:44 while Kyle Sulwer was 32nd in 16:52.

Turnbough Second at Cedar Rapids Invite
City High sophomore Caden Turnbough finished second in a time of 16:21.18 at the Cedar Rapids Invitational on Thursday at Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids.
Turnbough led a trio of top-20 finishers for the Little Hawks as City High finished third in the team standings with 104 points.
Cedar Rapids Prairie won the team title with 49 points followed by Linn-Mar with 72.
West High finished 16th with 404 points while Liberty was 19th with 490.
Quenton Max placed 11th for City High in a time of 16:44.11 while James Momberg was 20th in 16:54.51.
Marion senior Jeremy Fopma won the individual title in 15:50.83.

Nock Sets Course Record To Win Cedar Rapids Invite
Another meet, another victory for Bailey Nock.
The West High senior and top-ranked runner in Class 4A set a course record on her way to the individual title at the Cedar Rapids Invite at Noelridge Park on Thursday.
Nock’s winning time of 18:18 was 13 seconds faster than runner-up Micah Poellet of Linn-Mar.
West High finished second in the team standings with 101 points, eight behind team champion Dubuque Wahlert.
City High had three runners in the top 25 and finished third with 108 points.
Senior Colleen Bloeser joined Nock in the top-10, finishing seventh in a time of 19:34.
Amelia Morrow led City High finishing 13th in a time of 19:56 while teammate Esti Brady was 14th in 19:59.
Kinsee Brands placed 25th in 20:18 and Bridget Brown was 30th in 20:23 for City High.
