The first match of Scott Sanders’ head coaching career was one to remember for the first-year West High coach.

Class 5A No. 13 West High swept Cedar Rapids Prairie 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 on Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at West High.

Colby Greene led West High with 10 kills and two ace blocks while Claire Overton added eight kills.

Cailyn Morgan had five kills and two ace serves while Katie Servert had 31 assists for West High.

Keimoney Lang led West High with 16 digs while Morgan had 12 digs and Overton and Severt each had nine.

City High Falls at Top-Ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier

City High dropped its season opener on Tuesday falling to Class 4A top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier 25-16, 25-23, 25-19 in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Cedar Rapids.

Ellie Evans and Kelsey Law each had seven kills to lead City High while Mackenzie Murphy had four kills and three aces.

Lindsey Bolton had 23 assists for City High while Kate Swenning had 10 digs.
