On Monday, Steigleder was rewarded with her most impressive award of her career being named the 2016-2017 Gatorade Iowa Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
Steigleder capped an impressive senior campaign in which she was named Mississippi Valley Conference Division player of the year and first team all-state by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association by becoming the first West High player to earn Gatorade player of the year award.
The senior midfielder led Class 3A with 37 goals and added 11 assists this season helping West High to a 19-2 record and a third consecutive trip to the 3A state semifinals
“When you look at her speed and quickness and some of the things she can do with the ball it’s impressive,” West High coach Dave Rosenthal of Steigleder before the state tournament. “When you add her understanding of the game and her level of fitness and all the other things she has its just incredible what she can do.”
A four-time all-state selection, including a first-team pick each of the past three seasons, Steigleder closed her career with 90 goals and 26 assists.
The Northwestern recruit also boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Ankeny Centennial standout Meg Brandt won the Gatorade Player of the Year award in both 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.
