A week after completing one of the best seasons in state history the awards continue to pile up for the West High boys tennis team.

Seniors Jiung Jung and Cole Schneider and sophomore Jack Wenzel were all named to the Iowa Tennis Coaches Class 2A all-state team.

Schneider and Jung were both first-team all-state picks while Wenzel was named to the second team and head coach Mitch Gross was named co-head coach of the year.

Jung became the fourth three-time state champion in state history this season capturing his third consecutive Class 2A singles crown.

The senior had a 71-1 record during that span, a stretch that included a 60-match winning streak.

Schneider and Wenzel teamed up to win the Class 2A doubles title after finishing runner-up last season.

Wenzel was 17-2 during singles play this season while Schneider posted a 17-0 record while playing at No. 2 singles.

All three players were instrumental in helping West High claim its second consecutive Class 2A team title as the Trojans won singles, doubles and team titles in the same season for the first time.

City High senior Joe Hoff was a first-team pick after a second straight 2A runner-up finish.

Hoff was 37-6 over the past two seasons, falling to Jung in the 2A title match each of his final two seasons.

The Creighton recruit was 18-2 this season, with losses to Jung at the district and state tournaments after handing Jung his only loss of the past three seasons in a dual in May.

Hoff was the first City High state finalist since Steven Molen in 1985 and joined Art Andrews (1953-1955), Jamie Andrews (1951-1952) Rich Strauss (1963-1964) and Molen as the only two-time finalists in program history.

Second Team – Ty Sherman, Soph., Cedar Rapids Washington; Rami Scheetz, Sr., Cedar Rapids Washington; Ben Hediger, Jr., Linn-Mar; Jack Wenzel, Soph., West High; Luka VanDonslear, Fr., Linn-Mar; Rami Hemaidan, Jr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
