West High won seven events and cruised to the team title at the John Ask Relays on Tuesday at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

The Trojans had five runner-up finishes and rolled up 170 points, 69 more than runner-up Cedar Rapids Prairie.

West High finished first and second in both the 1,600 and 3,200 as Kolby Greiner won both events ahead of teammate Ali Ali.

The Trojans also got individual titles from Derek Nugent in the 800, Gabe Caruthers in the 200, Austin West in the 400 hurdles and Alex Kleinow in the shot put.

The foursome of Caruthers, Nugent, Ethan McAreavy and Cole Mabry won the 4×400 relay in 3:30.49.

Tipton Early Bird Invite

Jared Brinkman finished second in both the shot and discus to lead Regina to a fifth-place finish at the Tipton Early Bird Meet on Tuesday in Tipton.

Mount Vernon won the team title with 134 points while Anamosa was second with 92 points.

Regina placed fifth with 48 points while Solon was 10th with 20.5 points.

Jack Jensen added a runner-up finish in the 400 for Regina.

Luke Ira led Solon with a second-place finish in the 110 hurdles.

Solon Girls Win Tipton Early Bird Invite

Solon won four relays on its way to claiming the team title at the Tipton Early Bird Invite on Tuesday at Tipton.

The Spartans won the shuttle hurdle, sprint medley, distance medley and 4×800 while racking up 131 points to edge North Cedar by eight points for the team title.

West Branch was fourth with 63 points, Clear Creek Amana was seventh with 53 points and Regina was eighth with 19.

Solon got individual titles from Taylor Ryan in the 400 and Alexis Sands in the 100 hurdles while winning the team crown.

Tatum Koenig won the long jump and Paige Miller won the 400 hurdles to pace West Branch and teamed with Taylor Thein and Haley Mullinnix to win the 4×200 relay.

Kaylie Barker finished second in both the 1,500 and 3,00 and added a sixth-place finish in the 400 to lead Clear Creek Amana.
