Regina saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a loss to fourth-ranked Cascade.

The Regals didn’t wait long to get another streak started.

Jake Phillips and Masen Miller combined for 35 points as Regina rallied for a 67-60 win over Mid-Prairie on Tuesday in a River Valley Conference South Division contest at Regina.

Phillips and Miller took turns making big plays down the stretch as Regina overcame a 56-52 deficit to open the fourth quarter.  

Phillips had a team-high 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added four assists and four steals as Regina improved to 8-4 on the season and 7-3 in RVC play.

“He wants to make plays,” Regina coach Stu Ordman said of Phillips. “And he picked a great time to step up in the fourth quarter and start making them.”

Miller finished with 17 points, including a pair of fourth-quarter 3-pointers as Regina outscored Mid-Prairie 15-4 in the final eight minutes.

The freshman guard finished with a game-high six assists and added four steals in the win.

“He plays awfully hard and he practices hard. He’s put a lot of time into his game and we’re confident in his abilities,” Ordman said of Miller. “I believe when you practice so hard it gives you confidence. So we’re very happy that he stepped up. But I'm not surprised.”

Ryne Schooley had 10 points for Regina and Jocoa Kerschen added eight points and six rebounds for the Regals.

Mid-Prairie dropped to 4-11 and 3-9 in conference play.

Cornwell Leads West Branch to Third Straight Win

West Branch has started to heat up offensively over the past week. No Bear has been hotter during that stretch than Beau Cornwell.

Cornwell poured in game-high 31 points on Tuesday as West Branch ran its winning streak to three with a 78-58 win over Tipton in a River Valley Conference contest in West Branch.

West Branch improved to 9-5 with the win and moved to 8-5 in RVC play while Tipton dropped to 8-6 and 7-6 in conference games.

The 78 points were a season-high for West Branch and marked the third consecutive game the Bears scored at least 75 points.

Cornwell has been at the center of the offensive production of late, scoring at least 26 points in every game during the three-game winning streak.

The sophomore guard added six assists and six rebounds and also got plenty of help on Tuesday.

Cooper Kabela and Ben Thompson each had 18 points and eight rebounds for West Branch and freshman Tanner Lukavsky added seven points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Clippers Fall to Benton Community

Clear Creek Amana fell to Benton Community 76-56 on Tuesday in a WAMAC West Division matchup in Van Horne.

The loss was the ninth straight for Clear Creek Amana and dropped the Clippers to 1-11 on the season while Benton Community evened its record at 6-6.

Cory Siders led Clear Creek Amana with 11 points and Drake Mougin added 12 for the Clippers.

Tyler Schrepfer had eight points and Tate Thomsen seven for the Clippers.
