City High multi-sport standout Molly Carlson will officially begin her senior year later this month.
Prior to the start of her final year of high school Carlson made a decision on her collegiate future.
On of the top catchers in the state, Carlson announced her commitment to the Northern Iowa softball program on Tuesday with a post on social media.
“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to the University of Northern Iowa to continue my academic and softball career,” Carlson wrote in a post on social media. “First, I’d like to thank my family for always supporting me. Thank you to all the coaches and teammates that believed and invested in me and huge thank you to Coach (Ryan) Jacobs and the whole coaching staff for making UNI feel like home.”
Already a four-year starter at City High, Carlson put together the best season of her career this summer while helping the Little Hawks to 23-15 record and a spot in a Class 5A substate title game.
Carlson earned Class 5A first-team all-state selection after leading City High in hits (57), extra-base hits (25), doubles (15), RBI (46), total bases (102), batting average (.449), slugging percentage (.803) and OPS (1.303) this season.
Carlson had 10 home runs, posted a .500 on-base percentage and scored 24 runs this season on her way to first team Mississippi Valley Conference all-Valley Division honors.
A career .358 hitter Carlson has hammered 29 home runs and driven in 136 runs over the past four seasons.
Carlson started six matches for the City High volleyball team last fall racking up 77 digs and is a three-time state qualifier in wrestling.
