Sophia Austen still has two seasons of high school volleyball to play.
On Saturday Austen locked up plans for her collegiate volleyball future.
The West High junior standout announced her commitment to Iowa State with a post on social media.
“I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and volleyball career at Iowa State University,” Austen wrote in a post on Instagram. “I want to thank my entire family for all of the endless love and support they have given me throughout this process. I also want to thank all of my teammates and coaches who have shaped me into the person and player I am today. I’m so thankful for Coach Johnson-Lynch, Coach Jones and Coach Neef for giving me this opportunity.”
In her first two prep seasons Austen has established herself as one of the top players in the state.
The 6-foot-1 Austen hammered 459 digs in her first two high school seasons and is coming off a breakthrough sophomore season last fall in which she was a unanimous first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division pick.
Austen posted career highs in kills, hitting percentage, blocks and ace serves last season while helping West High improve its win total by four from the 2023 season.
An impressive athlete, Austen hit .223 while hammering a team-high 306 kills last season and also led the Trojans with 235 digs.
Austen had 30 blocks and 30 ace serves last season while helping West High to a 13-18 record.
Austen is also a two-time state qualifier in the high jump.
