Boys Golf Roundup: West Branch Sophomore Smith Posts Top-15 Finish at Class 2A State Meet

West Branch sophomore McGavin Smith shot a second-round 75 on Wednesday on his way to posting a top-15 finish at the Class 2A state golf meet at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo.
Smith fired a three-over-par 75 on Wednesday to finish 13th overall with a 36-hole total of 153 at the two-day event.
Following an opening-round 78 on Tuesday, Smith took three strokes off his score on Wednesday to move into the top 15.
West Marshall junior Hunter Polley won the Class 2A individual title with a score of 140, four strokes better than three golfers that each shot 44.
Rock Valley sophomore Trey Swanson, Grundy Center junior Judd Jirovsky and Waterloo Columbus senior Drew Lindsay all shot 144.
Waterloo Columbus had two golfers in the top five and claimed the 2A team title with a score of 600.
Grundy Center was runner-up with a 614 and Aplington-Parkersburg finished third with a score of 636.
