Clear Creek Amana Senior Prince Completes Sweep of Drake Relays Throwing Events With Discus Title

DES MOINES – A historic Drake Relays performance by Landon Prince comes with a picture-perfect finish.
The Clear Creek Amana senior became the sixth prep athlete in history to sweep the throwing events at the Drake Relays following up his shot put title Thursday with a discus title on Friday morning at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Prince put an exclamation point on his dominating performance by winning the discus with a career-best toss of 185-0 ¼.
The state leader entering the discus with a toss of 182-2, Prince dominated a Drake Relays throwing event for the second consecutive day.
Prince outdistanced the field by nearly 10 feet en route to his discus title as Sioux City Heelan senior Carson McInerney finished runner-up with a toss of 174-3 ¾.
This was the second consecutive season an athlete has completed the rare Drake Relays throwing sweep.
Last season Pella senior Hanson King won both the discus and shot put titles and Prince completed the sweep on Friday.
The title by Prince in the discus was part of a strong Friday showing for Clear Creek Amana.
Sophomore Tay Seals reached the finals in both the 110 hurdles and 100.
Seals finished fourth in the 100 in a school-record time of 10.64
West High had a pair of throwers post top-10 finishes in the discus, marking the second day in a row the Trojans had two in the top 10 in a throwing event.
Junior Colin Whitters was third in the discus with a mark of 172-5 ½ while junior Elite Mbulekoya placed eighth with a toss of 157-10 ½.
West High posted a pair of third-place relays finishes on Thursday.
The West High distance medley relay team of Mason Woods, Julian Manson, KingSton Swayzer and Moustafa Tiea finished third in a time of 3:29.49.
West High’s 4×200 squad of Woods, Manson, Mason Goering and Harel Gameti was third in a time of 1:27.82.
City High junior Rachel Haack placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 40-11 ¼.
