West High Wins 12 Events, Cruises to Team Title at Hollingsworth Relays

Some warm weather and a familiar setting provided the perfect recipe for an impressive performance for the West High boys track and field team.
West High won 12 events and added seven runner-up finishes on its way to winning the team title at its own Hollingsworth Relays on a sunny afternoon at Trojan Field in Iowa City.
The Trojans got individual titles from seven different athletes and five relay titles while finishing with 222 team points, 115 more than runner-up Muscatine.
Mason Woods, James Barnett, Colin Whitters, Moustafa Tiea, Jake Weiler, Michael Hanna and Waleed Ibrahim all won individual titles for West High on Saturday.
West High added titles in the distance medley, shuttle hurdle, 4×100, 4×200 and 4×800 relays and finished runner-up in the 4×400.
Woods won the long jump with a mark of 21-8 ¾ and added a runner-up finish in the 100.
Barnett won the shot put with a mark of 55-8 ½ and was runner-up in the discus while Whitters won the discus with a toss of 178-0 and finished runner-up in the shot put.
Tiea won the 800 in 1:55.64, Hanna was on the 1,600 in 4:42.22 and Weiler added an individual title in the 3,200 in 10:18.5.
Waleed Ibrahim won the 110 hurdles in 15.12 while teammate Ely Smock was runner-up.
Mason Middleton was runner-up in the high jump and Bernoli Luvandu finished second in the long jump.
Solon placed fourth in the team standings with 66 points and got individual titles from Kaden Hoeper and Will Brandt.
Hoeper won the high jump title by clearing 6-5 while Brandt won the 400 hurdles in a time of 58.71.
