The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts.
Shelby Kimm
Former Liberty High standout and current St. Cloud State sophomore Shelby Kimm was named to the All-NSIC Tournament team after helping the top-seeded Huskies win the NSIC tournament for the third time in the past four seasons.
Kimm had 15 digs, six kills and a team-high ace serves in a four-set win over No. 8 Concordia in the NSIC title match.
On the season Kimm has 147 kills, 258 digs and 43 ace serves while helping St. Cloud State to a 27-2 record and the fifth straight NCAA Division II tournament appearance. s
Lauren Riggle
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Loras College senior Lauren Riggle was named the American Rivers Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player when the conference released its postseason awards earlier this month.
Riggle finished with 30 points this season totaling 12 goals and six assists on her way to earning first-team all-ARC honors.
Riggle helped Loras to one of the best seasons in program history including an unbeaten regular season and a spot in the NCAA Division III Sweet 16.
Ford Washburn
Former City High standout and current Northern Arizona sophomore Ford Washburn helped the Lumberjacks to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships on Saturday at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Washburn finished 129th overall out of more than 250 runners in the 10k race in a time of 30:05.3 and was the sixth finisher for Northern Arizona.
Cael Fiderlein
West Branch graduate senior linebacker at Central College Cael Fiderlein earned second team all-American Rivers Conference honors when the conference released its postseason awards this month.
Fiderlein led Central with 94 tackles including 40 solo stops and four tackles for loss while helping the Dutch to an 8-2 record.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Fiderlein also broke up a pass and had a quarterback hurry on his way to earning second-team all-conference honors.
Cael O’Neill
Solon graduate and current Wartburg senior place kicker Cael O’Neill earned All-American Rivers Conference second team honors when the league announced its postseason awards this month.
It was the third consecutive season that O’Neill had earned second-team all-ARC honors.
O’Neill has made 44-of-47 PAT attempts and 7-of-8 field goal attempts this season with a long of 41 while helping the Knights to a 9-1 record and a spot in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
