Defending state champion Clear Creek Amana will open the season a top-five ranked teams.

Coming off an unbeaten season that ended with a Class 4A state title, Clear Creek Amana was ranked fifth in the Class 4A preseason rankings released on Friday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Clear Creek Amana rounds out a Class 4A top-five that features top-ranked Sioux City Heelan, North Polk, Sioux Center and Norwalk.

West High, City High and Regina join the Clippers in the preseason IGHSAU rankings.

West High is No. 13 in the Class 5A rankings one spot in front of City High which opens the season No. 15 in Class 5A.

Regina was ninth in the Class 2A rankings.

Other top ranked teams to open the season are Johnston in Class 5A, Estherville-Lincoln Central in Class 3A, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in Class 2A and Algona Garrigan in Class 1A.
