The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts.
Flori Gembo
Liberty High graduate and current Wartburg freshman Flori Gembo was named American Rivers Conference Men’s Soccer offensive player of the week last week.
Gembo had a goal and an assist to help Wartburg win the American Rivers Conference tournament title for the second consecutive season.
Gembo had an assist on the only goal in a semifinal win over Central and had the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan in the ARC championship match.
On the season Gembo tied for the team lead with six goals and had a team-high five assists to help Wartburg to a 11-5-4 record.
Ava Locklear
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Saginaw Valley State freshman Ava Locklear had a big game in a 65-55 win over Pitt-Johnstown last week.
Locklear had 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots in the win over Pitt-Johnstown.
On the season the Locklear is averaging 6.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1 blocked shot per game while helping Saginaw Valley State to a 3-1 start.
Bliss Beck
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Drake freshman Bliss Beck had eight kills a five-set win over Missouri State on Saturday in Springfield, Missouri.
Beck had eight kills and seven blocks in the win while helping Drake improve to 20-8 on the season including 16-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
In her first collegiate season Beck ranks fourth on the team with 127 kills on .309 hitting and leads the Bulldogs with 108 blocks.
