Junior Abigail Burns won the individual title to help lead City High to the team title at the season-opening Hillcrest Academy Early Bird meet on Tuesday in Kalona.

Burns won the individual title in a time of 20:25.43 as City High had seven runners finish in the top nine.

City High won the team title with 20 points followed by English Valleys with 65, Cedar Rapids Washington with 92, host Hillcrest Academy with 106 and Cedar Rapids Jefferson with 114.

Sophomore Grace Hamann finished runner-up in a time of 20:38.13 for City High while seniors Nicole Peterson and Nina Peterson finished fourth and sixth respectively.

Claire Locher was seventh for City High while Naomi Downing-Sherer was eighth and Madeline Fisher was ninth.
