The high school volleyball season officially opens next week with the first matches for teams across the state.

Four Your Prep Sports area volleyball teams will open the season next week as ranked teams.

Liberty High, Clear Creek Amana, Solon and Regina all appeared in the preseason volleyball rankings released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Clear Creek Amana is the highest ranked area team opening the season ranked sixth in Class 4A.

The Clippers were 46-1 last season and advanced the 4A semifinals.

Liberty High is seventh in the initial Class 5A rankings following a 19-22 season a year ago.

Regina was 26-11 last season and opens the year No. 10 in the Class 2A rankings while Solon is No. 11 in the 3A rankings after going 22-15 last season.

Top-ranked teams to open the season are Pleasant Valley in Class 5A, Cedar Rapids Xavier in Class 4A, Mount Vernon in 3A, Denver in 2A and Ankeny Christian in Class 1A.
