The 2024 was another stellar season for softball in the Your Prep Sports area.
Three Your Prep Sports area teams reached regional finals this season with Solon returning to the Class 3A state tournament for the first time since 2016.
Once again the Your Prep Sports area featured some of the top individual talent in the entire state.
The annual Your Prep Sports area team recognizes some of the top area players for their effort on the diamond this season.
The eighth edition of the Your Prep Sports area softball team features all-conference, all-district and all-state players as well as college recruits, state tournament qualifiers and school record holders.
This year’s 21-member team has 14 repeat selections from last year highlighted by Liberty High senior Mischa Reiners who is second player to be named to the Your Prep Sports area team five times.
City High junior Lianna Hull is a four-time YPS all-area team pick while Clear Creek Amana senior shortstop Reese Stockman and Liberty High junior first baseman Lanie Meyer are both appearing on the team for the third time.
Liberty High seniors Brynlee Slockett and Haley Schroeder and sophomore Kelsey Kaut, Regina seniors Gabby Sueppel and Avery Kies, Solon juniors Izzy Frees and Addie Miller, City High sophomore Molly Carlson and Clear Creek Amana sophomores Kyla Schulte and Elizabeth Timmerman are all repeat selections.
Liberty High senior catcher Mischa Reiners is the captain of the 2024 Your Prep Sports area team.
A five-year starter, Reiners helped the Lightning to four consecutive 20-plus win seasons and three straight regional title games.
Reiners hit a career-best .436 with two home runs and 38 RBI this season helping Liberty High to a 23-12 record.
2024 Your Prep Sports Area Softball Team
P – Lily Nibaur, Fr., Regina: In her first varsity season Nibaur emerged as the ace of the Regina staff posting a 10-7 record, 2.22 ERA and 1.24 WHIP while striking out 112 in a team-high 113 1/3 innings on the way to being named to the River Valley Conference South Division first team.
P – Ellie Tague, 8th, Liberty High: Among the top eighth-grader hurlers in the state Tague posted an 11-3 record with a 3.03 ERA and 1.41 ERA while striking out 46 in a team-high 106 1/3 innings pitcher in her debut season.
*C – Mischa Reiners, Sr., Liberty High: A five-year starter, Reiners capped a brilliant prep career with her best season setting career highs in batting average (.436) and slugging percentage (.658) while scoring 36 runs, driving in 38 runs and posting a 1.126 OPS on her way to second team Class 5A all-state honors from the IGCA. A career .397 hitter, Reiners closed her career with 117 runs, 133 RBI and eight home runs among 69 extra-base hits.
C – Molly Carlson, Soph., City High: One of the top young catchers in the state Carlson followed up a strong freshman season with a stellar sophomore campaign in which she batted .364 with 21 extra-base hits, 26 runs scored and 19 walks and ranked 10th in 5A with 10 home runs and 19th with 40 RBI.
INF – Haley Schroeder, Sr., Liberty High: A Drake recruit, Schroeder was a career .363 hitter and was equally as impressive of a defensive shortstop during her four seasons in the Lightning lineup. Schroeder hit .324 with four home runs, 28 RBI and 28 runs scored this season on her way to earning first-team all-state honors from the IGCA.
INF – Avy Lindsey, Jr., City High: Lindsey enjoyed a solid bounce back season setting career-highs in extra-base hits (20) and home runs (7) on her way to earning third-team Class 5A all-state honors from the IGCA. A four-year starter, Lindsey hit .286, drove in 26 runs and scored 20 runs while posting a .580 slugging percentage.
INF – Brynlee Slockett, Sr., Liberty High: Another anchor in the Liberty High lineup the past four seasons Slockett posted a fourth consecutive season with a batting average over .320 and at least 29 runs, 15 RBI, and 10 extra-base hits in her final prep season. A Northern Iowa recruit, Slockett batted .374 with 12 extra-base hits, 39 runs scored, 16 RBI and 16 runs scored.
INF – Gabby Sueppel, Sr., Regina: A stalwart in the Regina lineup for the past five seasons Sueppel capped her career with a stellar senior season in which she hit .367 with 10 doubles, 27 RBI and 25 runs scored on her way to earning first-team all-River Valley Conference South Division honors.
INF – Lizzie Pasbrig, Soph., Clear Creek Amana: It was a breakthrough season for Pasbrig as the sophomore first baseman hit a career-best .385 and led the Clippers with seven home runs. Pasbrig posted a .459 on-base percentage, a .615 slugging percentage and ranked third in Class 4A with 57 RBI.
INF – Ava Tague, Soph., Liberty High: Tague enjoyed a breakthrough season as the sophomore third baseman emerged as one of the top hitters in Class 5A ranking in the top 15 in 5A in batting average, slugging percentage and doubles. Tague hit .467 with 25 doubles, two home runs, 39 RBI and 23 runs scored with a .500 on-base percentage and .811 slugging percentage.
INF – Alyse Klinkkammer, Sr., West Branch: A three-year starter Klinkkammer had the best season of her career as a senior leading the Bears in batting average (.476), hits (50), runs (22), doubles (11), total bases (61), on-base percentage (.526) and slugging percentage (.581).
INF – Lianna Hull, Jr., City High: One of the best overall hitters in the state Hull posted a fourth consecutive season with a batting average over .450 ranking eighth in Class 5A with a .489 batting average. A career .499 hitter, Hull led City High with 30 runs scored and had 14 extra-base hits including two home runs and drove in 12 runs while posting a .545 on-base percentage and .716 slugging percentage.
INF – Savannah Mathias, 8th, West High: Mathias made an immediate impact in her first varsity season as the eighth-grade shortstop led West High in batting average (.368), on-base percentage (.415), hits (32), runs (12), walks (7) and stolen bases (12) on her way to earning second-team all-Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division honors.
INF – Lanie Meyer, Jr., Liberty High: In her first season at Liberty High Meyer established herself as one of the top power hitters in Class 5A ranking in the top 20 in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage. Meyer batted .363 with 21 extra-base hits and 24 runs scored and ranked fifth in 5A with 12 home runs, 16th with 41 RBI and 12th with a .814 slugging percentage, all team-highs.
INF – Reese Stockman, Sr., Clear Creek Amana: A leader from her shortstop position and her spot in the middle of the Clipper batting order Stockman came up with the best season of her career as a senior earning third-team Class 4A all-state honors from the IGCA. Stockman batted .387 with 13 extra-base hits and 19 RBI and led Clear Creek Amana with 41 runs scored, 16 walks and a .489 on-base percentage.
OF – Addie Miller, Jr., Solon: The more Miller plays, the better she gets earning first team all-WAMAC East Division and third-team Class 3A all-state following a junior season in which she batted .407with 17 extra-base hits and six home runs. Miller had career-highs in runs (30), RBI (34) and walks (15) while striking out a career low seven times in 137 plate appearances.
OF – Avery Kies, Sr., Regina: A three-year starter, Kies was one of the top outfielders in Class 2A this season hitting .490 with seven extra-base hits, 34 runs scored, 26 stolen bases and 12 RBI from her leadoff spot.
OF – Izzy Frees, Jr., Solon: A three-year starter, Frees put together the best season of her career this summer earning first team all-WAMAC East Division and third-team Class 3A all-state honors. Frees hit a career-high .388 with 15 extra-base hits, 19 RBI, 34 runs and 18 stolen bases.
OF – Kyla Schulte, Soph., Clear Creek Amana: Schulte followed up an impressive freshman season with an even better sophomore campaign on her way to being a unanimous all-WAMAC West Division pick and second-team Class 4A all-state selection by the IGCA. Schulte led Clear Creek Amana in batting average (.439), RBI (59), hits (54), doubles (17), extra-base hits (21) and slugging percentage (.675).
OF – Kelsey Kaut, Soph., Liberty High: Kaut followed up an impressive freshman season with a stellar sophomore campaign batting over .400 and scoring 37 runs for the second consecutive season. The speedy centerfielder hit .403 with 13 RBI from her leadoff spot and led Liberty High with 16 stolen bases.
UTIL – Elizabeth Timmerman, Soph., Clear Creek Amana: Timmerman continued to establish herself as one of the top two-way players in Class 4A with a strong sophomore season in which she hit .314 and posted a 13-5 record and 2.15 ERA in the circle. Timmerman had a 1.10 WHIP and struck out 82 batters in team high 91 innings and also scored 22 runs and drove in 22 runs.
