Two of the pillars in the building of the Liberty High softball program pick up some postseason awards on Wednesday.
Liberty High senior standouts Haley Schroeder and Mischa Reiners each earned all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association when the organization released its postseason teams.
Schroeder was named to the Class 5A first team while Reiners was a second-team selection in Class 5A.
Reiners and Schroeder highlighted a group of nine area players to earn all-state honors from the IGCA as City High, Clear Creek Amana and Solon each had two players named to all-state teams and Regina had one all-state honoree.
City High juniors Lianna Hull and Avy Lindsey each earned all-state honors in Class 5A while Clear Creek Amana sophomore Kyla Schulte and senior Reese Stockman were 4A all-state picks.
Solon juniors Addie Miller and Izzy Frees were selected to the 3A team and Regina senior Avery Kies was an all-stater in Class 2A.
Schroeder and Reiners were both instrumental in helping Liberty High build its program helping the Lightning win 23 or more games each of the last four seasons and reach three regional title games in that span.
A four-year starter at shortstop Schroeder earned first-team all-state honors after a senior season in which she hit .324 with 15 extra-base hits and 28 RBI.
Schroeder scored 28 runs, had 10 doubles and four home runs and posted a .416 on-base and .559 slugging percentage and led the Lightning with 18 walks.
Reiners was a five-year starter at catcher for the Lightning and earned second-team all-state honors after capping her career with her best season.
Reiners hit a career-high .436 with 18 extra base hits including two home runs and 38 RBI to go with a .658 slugging percentage and 36 runs scored.
Hull earned second-team all-state honors in 5A after leading City High with a .489 batting average 30 runs scored and 43 hits.
The junior shortstop had 14 extra-base hits including two home runs and drove in 12 runs.
Lindsey was named to the 5A third-team following a season in which she hit .286 with 20 extra-base hits including seven home runs and 26 RBI along with 25 runs scored.
Schulte was named to the Class 4A second-team while Stockman was a third-team selection in Class 4A.
A sophomore pitcher/outfielder, Schulte enjoyed a breakthrough season hitting .439 with 21 extra-base hits including four home runs and a team-high 59 RBI.
Schulte scored 30 runs, posted a .482 on-base percentage and a .675 slugging percentage while also going 2-5 with a 4.42 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 57 innings.
A senior shortstop, Stockman hit .387 with 13 extra-base hits, 41 runs and 19 RBI.
Miller and Frees were both named to the Class 3A third team after leading Solon to its first state tournament berth since 2016.
Miller hit .407 with 17 extra-base hits, 34 RBI and 30 runs scored while leading the Spartans with a .507 on-base and .673 slugging percentage.
Frees hit .388 with 15 extra-base hits, 34 runs scored and 19 RBI and led the Spartans with 18 stolen bases.
Kies was named to the Class 2A second team after helping Regina to a 20-13 record.
