Softball Roundup: Liberty High Falls to Muscatine in Regional Final

For the third year in a row Liberty High came up one win shy of a spot at the state tournament.
And for the third consecutive season it was Muscatine that denied the Lightning at trip to Fort Dodge.
Third-ranked Muscatine scored four runs in the first inning on its way to a 5-2 win over eighth-ranked Liberty High on Tuesday in the Class 5A, Region 6 title game in Muscatine.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Liberty High which closes the season 23-12.
Muscatine (27-10) will face Urbandale (22-18) in a 5A state quarterfinal on Monday at 12:45 p.m. at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
The Muskies had four of their nine hits in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Elise Lewis with two outs that gave Muscatine a 4-0 lead.
Liberty High got back into the game in the sixth when Mischa Reiners hammered a two-run home run but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Lanie Meyer added a hit for the Lightning.
