Softball Roundup: Solon Storms Past No. 11 West Liberty in Regional Semifinal

Solon had a strong start to the postseason on Thursday hammering 12 hits in an opening-round win over Vinton-Shellsburg.
Things got a whole lot better for the Spartans on Saturday.
Solon pounded 13 hits and exploded for 11 runs and rolled to a 11-1 win over No. 11 West Liberty (21-11) in a Class 3A, Region 6 semifinal in West Liberty.
The Spartans will host Center Point-Urbana (16-18) in the regional title game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. after the Stormin’ Pointers knocked off fourth-ranked Mount Vernon 3-0 in a regional semifinal on Saturday.
Seven different players had a hit for Solon on Saturday as the Spartans scored in four different innings.
Solon jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and scored eight unanswered runs over the final three innings to pull away.
Izzy Frees went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored and Emerson Miller was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Spartans.
Addie Miller was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI and Kendall Jensen had two hits and drove in three runs.
Laeni Hinkle had a hit and scored twice, Avery Babbitt doubles and Keegan Kleppe scored two runs for Solon.
Jensen picked up the win allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out six with walking a batter.
