Seventh-ranked Solon defeated Vinton-Shellsburg 14-0 in a Class 3A, Substate 4 quarterfinal on Friday in Solon.

Vince Steinbrech struck out eight in four shutout innings as Solon improved to 28-11 on the season and advanced to the Substate 4 semifinals where it will host Clear Creek Amana (22-15) on Monday at 7 p.m.

Vinton-Shellsburg closed the season at 7-24.

Brett White homered, drove in three runs and scored four runs to lead Solon while Steinbrech was 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI.

Dylan Gorham was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Tyson Wheeler was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
