Liberty High climbed two spots to ninth in the most recent Class 5A softball rankings released on Wednesday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Lightning are 20-11 on the season and trail join seventh-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy and No. 13 Dubuque Senior as Mississippi Valley Conference teams in the most recent 5A rankings that feature eight teams from the CIML Conference.

Clear Creek Amana and Regina each held their spots in Wednesday’s rankings.

Regina (19-11) remained sixth in the Class 2A rankings while Clear Creek Amana (22-11) stayed at No. 12 in the Class 4A rankings.

Top-ranked teams this week include West Des Moines Valley  in Class 5A, North Polk in Class 4A, Benton Community  in Class 3A, Van Meter in 2A and Martensdale-St. Marys in Class 1A.
