Softball Roundup: Liberty High Pushes Win Streak to Seven With Sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington

Class 5A ninth-ranked Liberty High stretched its winning streak to seven with a doubleheader sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington on Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader in North Liberty.
Liberty High won the opener 12-0 in four innings and took the nightcap 10-0 in five innings to improve to 10-5 on the season.
Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 1-10.
Liberty High has now scored double digit runs in six of its last seven games and is averaging 11 runs per game during its current seven-game winning streak.
The Lightning hammered 16 hits in the opener with Lanie Meyer, Kelsey Kau, Kennedy Conner and Brynlee Slockett all collecting three hits.
Slockett was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI while Conner was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Meyer was 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored and Ava Tague had two doubles, drove in three runs and scored twice.
Ellie Tague earned the win allowing four hits while striking out three in four shutout innings.
It was more of the same in the nightcap as Liberty High had 10 hits led by Haley Schroeder, Kaut and Kinley Jones all with two hits.
Meyer had a triple and scored two runs, Schroeder doubled and drove in two runs and Kaut scored twice.
Kaelyn Rickels struck out four in two innings and Addyson McKillip worked three innings of scoreless relief.
