Mason Waterbury and Andrew Olthoff each thew complete game shutouts to lift Liberty High to a doubleheader sweep of Class 4A seventh-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie on Monday evening in Cedar Rapids.
Liberty High won the opener 9-0 behind a three-hitter from Waterbury and took the nightcap 4-0 as Olthoff fanned five in a shutout as the Lightning improved to 11-4.
Cedar Rapids Prairie dropped to 9-6 on the season with the two losses.
Waterbury allowed just three hits, walked three and struck out three in a complete game shutout in game one.
Liberty High scored eight runs in the first three innings and finished with nine hits in the opener.
Jackson Khamphilanouvong and Landon Chandler each had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run in game one.
Ryan Schmierer doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs and Evan Schmierer had a hit and scored two runs.
In the nightcap Olthoff allowed six hits and three walks but struck out five in a complete game shutout.
Ryan Schmierer had two hits and scored a run, Cooper Hughes had two hits and drove in a run and Carter Meyers doubled and drove in two runs.
Liam Bender, Chandler and Evan Schmierer each had hits and scored runs in the second game.
