Solon had a pair of players shoot 85 on Thursday and current sits in sixth place after the opening day of the two-day Class 3A state golf meet at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.

Sydney Dee and Rylie Greazel each shot 85 to lead Solon as the Spartans fired an opening-round 355.

Gilbert leads the 3A team race with an opening-round 309 followed by Dubuque Wahlert with a 325, Cedar Rapids Xavier with a 349, Nevada with a 351 and West Delaware with a 352.
Clear Creek Amana is ninth after one day with a 368.

Izzy Frees shot a 90 and Mya Miller added a 95 for the Spartans.

Clear Creek Amana sophomore Brooklyn Lee fired an opening-round 79 to pace the Clippers and is currently in a three-way tie for eighth place with Dubuque Wahlert’s Elin Mueller and Maria Riveros of Decorah.

Meg Berkland shot a 91, Isabelle Mooney shot a 96 and Lexi Moran shot a 102 for the Clippers.

The second round is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
