Saturday State Track and Field Notebook: Regina Closes Strong on Final Day of State Track and Field Meet

DES MOINES – An already outstanding week at the state track and field meet got even better for Regina on Saturday afternoon.
Regina secured three more state medals on Saturday, two on the boys side and one on the girls, to cap an impressive season of growth under first-year head coach Joe Fedoris.
Sophomore Edwin Gangba concluded a strong weekend with a fourth-place finish in the Class 2A 200 on Saturday and ran on the Regina 4×100 relay team that finished fifth.
Gangba finished the 200 in 22.72 and joined the Jackson Naeve, Alex Jensen and Savion Miler on the Regal 4×100 team that was fifth in 43.19.
Regina sophomore Reese Naeve earned her second individual medal of the meet on Saturday placing fourth in the 100 hurdles.
Naeve clocked a career-best time of 15.55 in the finals of the 100 hurdles finishing behind champion Morgan Karr of PCM (15.01), runner-up Miranda Neighbor of Alburnett (15.33) and Hinton sophomore Bailey Boeve (15.52).
The fourth-place hurdle finish came after Naeve was runner-up in the 2A high jump on Friday.
Regina finished 20th with 13 points in the 2A girls team standings and was 18th with 13 points in the 2A boys team standings.
Liberty High Decker Closes With Medal
The final prep race of Aidan Decker was a memorable one as the Liberty High senior distance ace finished seventh in the Class 4A 1,600.
Decker clocked a 4:20.76 in the 1,600 to finish seventh in a 4A field that featured 15 runners under 4:25.
Norwalk junior Tony Anania won the 1,600 in 4:11.9 just in front of Ankeny junior Ethan Zuber who was runner-up in 4:11.94.
Attendance Soars
Saturday’s attendance at Drake Stadium was 9,786, the second largest Saturday crowd in state meet history.
The three-day attendance total of 39,537 was also the second largest in the history of the meet.
